1980
Fourth Grade flew the Club's flag in the finals, finishing third and making the Final although losing to Wests 12 0. After a slow start to the season First Grade consolidated with good wins over Wests, Wanneroo, Perth and Palmyra. Unfortunately they fell away at the end of the season to finish out of the semi's.
Without a State representative fixture the local scene was left to maintain the interest of the rugby community. Chris Moreland undertook to coach First Grade.
Nedlands Park Hotel continued to be the focal point of the Club's socialising, as it had done for years previously. After match and after training drinks had long been consumed at Steve's with many players convinced of the qualities of playing for Uni after a few nights socialising at the pub.
David Vaux won the prestigious University of Western Australia Sports Star of the Year award, following in the footsteps of Neil McPherson who had won several years earlier.
Vern Reid became a TURD.
